QALQILIYA (Ma’an) -- The body of an elderly man was discovered Thursday in a field near Qalqiliya, police said.

Police are treating the death as suspicious, a statement from the Qalqiliya government hospital said. The 82-year-old man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead in the hospital's emergency room.

According to the hospital, police accompanied by detectives were dispatched to the site where his body was found near Azbat al-Ashqar village in the Qalqiliya district.

The body was found in an agricultural area where he is believed to have been working.

The public prosecutor has ordered an autopsy, the hospital statement added.
