DUBAI (Reuters) -- Russia's Foreign Minister defended his country's sale of arms to Syria and accused the United States of supplying rebels with weapons to fight against the government.

"We are not violating any international law in performing these contracts," said Sergei Lavrov, in response to a question about arms sales to Syria at a news conference in Tehran shown on Iranian state television.

"They (the United States) are providing arms and weapons to the Syrian opposition that can be used in fighting against the Damascus government," he said, speaking through an interpreter.

Russia is right tho'too.
The 'pot' of USG,Israel,Turkey,Qatar &Saudi etc,CAN'T call the 'kettle' Russia(China)'black'? Not when USG & its 'lieutenants'are THREATENING Russia,& Iran indirectly,& DIRECTLY,thru' Syria,Iraq,AfPak etc, against all NATO TREATIES! Russia's point is VALID! USG knows it!

If in fact the U.S. is sending weapons of destruction to Syrian rebels, the Russian foreign Minister may have a strong point.

I don't see what the problem is with Russia selling attack helicopters to Syria is anyway. Israel used them on unarmed demonstrators during the Second Intifada, and they worked just fine. Certainly the United States didn't object.

It is interesting, actually. Fairly obviously, we should do as we did in Libya, and impose a no-fly zone, etc. Turkey et al would probably be on board. But we won't -- and I suspect we won't because Israel doesn't want to risk ANOTHER democracy next door. She's realized she's better off with Assad -- and of course, Israel calls the shots. All Israel's neighbors must be ground under heel. It's the only way for Israel to survive.
