Independents call for 'popular revolution'
Published Friday 13/07/2012 (updated) 14/07/2012 11:46
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- The head of the Palestinian independents forum, Yasser al-Wadiyeh, called Thursday for a "popular revolution" to end the division and complete reconciliation once and for all.

Al-Wadiyeh called for re-activating the elections commission's work and scheduling a date for presidential elections simultaneously with a vote for the Palestinian National Council.

Elections should not be held more than a year later than the unity deal, he said. The reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas was signed in May 2011.

The official said that the Palestinian people are suffering from the division, while their enemies gain.

Did the official also point out that the leaders of the Palestinian factions are also "gaining", and perhaps this is part of the problem?

Yasser al-Wadiyeh could call for the IOM (International Organisation of Migration) to organise Out of Country Voting (OCV) for the Palestinian refugees and diaspora, giving voter registration cards, showing town and district of origin, e.g. Haifa, Acre, Jaffa. Let the world 'see and hear' the refugees. Unity Elections could be organised so West Bank, Gaza, refugees and diaspora, all vote on the same day :)
