JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- The deputy leader of the Islamic movement in Israel, Sheikh Kamal al-Khateib, said Tuesday that the Israeli municipal council of Jerusalem planned to transform the yards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound into public parks and gardens, to make them accessible for the Jews to visit at any time.

Speaking to reporters, Al-Khateib said that the process of 'Judaising' Jerusalem had been accelerated since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. “The occupation is working to efface the Palestinian features in the holy city through unprecedented procedures they carried out this month,” he added.

“For the first time, the occupation has allowed settlers and extremists to access Al-Aqsa compound during Ramadan paying no attention to the feelings of the Muslim worshipers there,” he said. “Meanwhile, the municipality which represents the occupation approved a decision to consider the yards in Al-Aqsa compound public parks which anybody can access.”

In mid-July Palestinian officials denounced Yehuda Weinstein, the Israeli attorney general, after he claimed that the Al-Aqsa area was part of Israel and referred to the mosque's courtyards as public space.

Weinstein was quoted on Israeli news sites as saying the area was under Israeli jurisdiction for matters such as planning and building, and said the courtyard was for public use.

In his remarks Tuesday, Al-Khateib said soldiers detained the imam of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday while he was praying. “Israeli troops stormed the mosque and prevented worshipers from completing their prayer,” he said.

On Thursday a mosque guard told Ma'an that 20 rightists entered the grounds of the holy site.

More racist hatred from the Islamic leaders of the Palestinians. More propaganda lies too, since "'Judaising' Jerusalem" is a total lie. In the history of the world there have never been more Arabs living in Jerusalem than in 2012 under Israeli rule.

Given Israel's practices in the Occupied Territories of relentless encroachment on Palestinian land and the creeping displacement of the indigenous Palestinian population I would also be very suspicious about Israel's intentions within the Haram al-Sharif. No statement about "public space" is innocent or benign when it comes from Zionist expansionists, like Weinstein.

This term "Judaising Jerusalem." Are we to understand it to mean the opposite of what the Jordanians did when they ethnically cleansed it of the original Jewish population ?

the Muslim worshipers should NOT have feelings against seeing Jews,
in the yards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, or anywhere else !!

Is there no religous freedom to worship on the Holy Mount shared by both faiths?

NO, "there is religous NOT freedom to worship on the Holy Mount shared by both faiths", but instead:
- there is religous freedom to worship for Muslims,
where Israel sees no threat (women, children [<12], and men [>40]), and
- there is the freedom to be arrested for Jews,
for openning a prayer book, or moving their lips, in what seems a prayer !!

1- There is NO "Palestinian land", so there is NO "encroachment".
2- The "indigenous populations" of the Land include Jews too, and
3- You are probably right to be suspicious about Israel's intentions,
on King Soloman's and later King Herod's Temple Mount,
also known as the "Haram al-Sharif" by Muslims, who try and fail
to erase any Jewish claims to both the Site of the Two Jewish Temples,
and to the Land Israel (Judah, Samaria, "Palestine") in general !!!

There is no doubt about what the zionist wants. They want it ALL!!! And that will be a BIG mistake. Let the muslims pray in peace. And leave Al Aqsa to the muslims. The zionists must to step away. The only way to peace is respect. And respect is not known by zionist state.

When the Muslims liberatef Jerusalem during the reign of Caliph Omar ibn al-Khattaab they even built a synogogue on the Temple Mount to be used by Jews. Muslims have always valued co-exictence. But the zionists dont. They want it all. They want to destroy the al-Aqsa..thats commonly knowed. So..if Israel actually respects Palestinians and treat them equally, the problem will be solved.

Another zionist theft of Palestinian cultural and religious rights. Outrageous their contempt for Palestine's indigenous people's rights and freedoms.

13 ) Ben / does it matter

1. Muslims built on ruins of the Temple, so who does not have respect? 2. Muslims, Christians, etc. can pray at Western Wall, why not Jews at Temple Mount? 3. Israel could have kicked out all Palestinians, and instead of a "genocide" the Palestinian pop. went from 1.2 mil in 1948 to 1.4 w/citizenship; 3-4 in "West Bank" and Gaza.

israel steals more. West ignores more. cronies make excuses for israel more. Jerusalem has not been majority Jewish until israel was founded by ethnically cleansing Palestinians. The Palestinians do not say Jews are not native to israel/Palestine. The Pals merely want equal rights to all Pals who live there or were forced out against thier will. Jordan did not ethnically cleanse Jerusalem and had a good relationship with Jewish citizens of Jordan.
