GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Morocco has pledged to give $500 million to support reconciliation between Palestinian factions, a reconciliation committee official said Sunday.
Abdul Aziz Qudaih, a spokesman for the social reconciliation committee, said Morocco would donate the money to the committee once a unity government has been formed, without giving further details.
The group met on Sunday and confirmed that it is ready to start work once Hamas and Fatah have agreed on forming a unity government.
Both factions must end all political detentions, Qudaih added.
The social reconciliation committee aims to pay compensation to those injured or with damaged homes as a result of the rival political violence between Hamas and Fatah, which split the West Bank and Gaza Strip into separate governments in 2007.
