RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad announced a new reconciliation meeting with Hamas on Thursday, and then said later that Hamas had asked to postpone the date.
He told the official Voice of Palestine radio that the factions would meet in Cairo on Monday to appraise progress on the 2011 reconciliation deal.
The long-stalled agreement made some progress this week as the Central Elections Commission updated voter records in the Gaza Strip for the first time since 2005.
But al-Ahmad later released a press statement said Hamas deputy politburo chief Mousa Abu Marzouq called him to asked for the meeting to be postponed until Feb. 27.
The parties have been at loggerheads since they split the West Bank and Gaza into separate governments in 2007.
