RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Over two-thirds of Palestinians living in the occupied territories doubted the accuracy of leaked PLO documents shortly after they were published by Al-Jazeera, the results of a recent poll said.

The Qatar-based satellite network has published over 1,600 confidential documents relating to over a decade of negotiations with Israel.

According to the poll, conducted just after the series, 99 percent of Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem heard about the leaked documents, dubbed the Palestine Papers, but 68 percent did not believe them.

There was little variation across the territories, with 71 percent in the West Bank doubting the documents, compared to 64 percent in Gaza.

However, the majority of Hamas supporters polled believed the leaked papers were real, while most Fatah supporters said they were fabricated.

Both factions agreed the leak of the documents would serve Israeli interests, with 88 percent saying Israel would benefit most from their publication.

Only five percent said the Palestinian Authority would benefit from the leak.

The survey was conducted by Near East Consulting. A random sample of 897 Palestinians aged above 18 were polled. There was a margin of error of 3.4 percent.

The PA's response to the papers has focused on Al-Jazeera, and 64 percent of Palestinians said the channel's coverage of the issue was not neutral.

One-third of respondents said the network was objective, while 62 percent said it was sympathetic to Hamas. Only five percent said the station's sympathies were with the PA.

Some 59 percent of Palestinians considered the leaks to be a negotiations tactic.

Regarding the impact of the papers, 83 percent of those polled said they would lead to internal conflict.

The poll also revealed that Al-Jazeera was less trusted by Palestinians since leaking the documents.

In an October 2010 poll, 45 percent of respondents cited Al-Jazeera as their most trusted TV channel. The latest poll showed that figure dropped to 23 percent.

Pary tell, who conducted this "poll", what was the selection process of those "polled" . Please we saw how the pathetic Vichy PA watch as the Gaza children were exterminated by Nazi Israel, what sane Palestinian is going to believe the traitors who run the Vichy PA.
Nonsense I trust Al-Jazeera.
Boy, Ma'an will print anything to make the PA look good, How much did you get Paid? or are you jealous of Al-Jazeera scouping You?

according the Jerusalem post that Abbas should not deny the documents and should tell the Palestinians the facts and went on David Horovitzto say that " Mahmoud Abbas, not to deny the documents revealed by the channel Al Jazeera in the last days, which may give leakage chance for him to inform the Palestinian people to the harsh realities Horowitz in his article that what happened, "gives an opportunity for the authority must be invested to keep the Palestinian people to the harsh realities

Then 68% of Palestinians don't believe the truth, whether it is reported
- on Al-Jazeera (The PA offered to compromise. What did they think?),
- the Quran (the book was God-given to Musa/Moses), and
- the Bible and centuries of archaeology
(the Land was inhabited by Jews for 1000s of years) !!!!

I dont understand why this campaign against Al Jazeera when no one from the PA has denied the authenticity of the documents. What was revealed in these documents was known to Palestinians for a long time- word of mouth. The only difference now it is documented. But the Palestinians attack on AL JAZEERA is unjustified and irrational after all Al Jazeera did during recent events in Palestine and the Arab world. Are you blind?

I especially feel sorry for Pals of the WB who have been co-opted into Netanyahu's economic peace as implemented by Blair, PA and the Quartet. If this poll is even reliable it shows that Pals have a hard time distinguishing between right and wrong. Nothing in those papers went beyond the pale of reality. The PA has actually benefited because now they can show that after giving up everything in the store the poor saps never had a partner in Israel for peace.

this is aljazeera we are talking about, not fox news. they are a trusted news agency. aljazeera has nothing to gain from exposing the truth. it is a shame how simple minded some people can be, by saying that aljazeera is lying. people who are backing the PA are either getting paid from the PA, fear the PA, or are just plain STUPID. keep up the good work aljazeera. maybe the PA leaders should be thrown out of office, and we can get some honest leaders, instead of corrupt ones.

Polls can be manipulated by the way a question is phrased. Notice that the exact question is not mentioned in this article. The title of this article is "Poll: 68% of Palestinians don't believe Al-Jazeera leaks" but the first sentence say "Palestinians living in the occupied territories doubted the accuracy of leaked PLO documents". There is a big difference between "not believing" Al Jazeera and "doubting accuracy". This type of poorly written article makes me "doubt" Ma'ans accuracy!

Birds of a feather, flock together. Will the 68% of Fatah supporters believe the Aljazeera leaks when the Zionists take the land from beneath their feet while Abass & Co twiddle their thumbs? 68%? Surely Palestinian people are not so naive.

why fabricate lies? They are so unnecessary since the balance of power is exposed. Let the people speak through elections!
