QALQILIYA (Ma’an) -- Police on Saturday rescued a 20-year-old woman who had been kept prisoner by her father for nine years in the bathroom of her house.
Police found the woman while inspecting the home, a statement said. Officers had heard shouting from the bathroom and upon opening the door found a woman and sleeping arrangements.
Officers took her to the police station where she was given food and clothing. A social worker was also brought in to speak with the woman, who had reportedly not been allowed out of the house for nine years.
Her father admitted to police that he had imprisoned his daughter since she was 11-years-old, preventing her from leaving the home.
The woman, who was not named, was first kept in a house in Nabi Ilias village, before being moved to Qalqiliya.
It is thought that a family dispute was the motivation behind her imprisonment.
