QALQILIYA (Ma’an) -- Police on Saturday rescued a 20-year-old woman who had been kept prisoner by her father for nine years in the bathroom of her house.

Police found the woman while inspecting the home, a statement said. Officers had heard shouting from the bathroom and upon opening the door found a woman and sleeping arrangements.

Officers took her to the police station where she was given food and clothing. A social worker was also brought in to speak with the woman, who had reportedly not been allowed out of the house for nine years.

Her father admitted to police that he had imprisoned his daughter since she was 11-years-old, preventing her from leaving the home.

The woman, who was not named, was first kept in a house in Nabi Ilias village, before being moved to Qalqiliya.

It is thought that a family dispute was the motivation behind her imprisonment.

The father and the other family members who were involved in this case have to be taken to the court, but unfortunately there is no juridical system in Palestine, just corruption and strange social norms those steer Palestinians life. It has to be changed if the society wants to develop. If this young woman was imprisoned by Israeli all will condemn it.

May she be able to write this someday... "and so, I departed and was free from imprisonment. I begin a new journey that turned out to be a long and happy life. Now, my grandchildren, remember... it is not what happens to you, it is how you respond to what happens."

To Robert Haymond #2 'Israeli Arabs. Rescued by Israeli police. ' Leaving aside the question of why Israeli police would be operating there, why would Israeli Arabs be living in Qalqiliya?
