BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- An American singer/songwriter known for his political and social activism has written a song about hunger striking prisoner Khader Adnan, who has refused food for 65 days.

David Rovics, whose music has covered topics such as the Iraq war, globalization and issues of social justice, uploaded a song to Youtube on Sunday entitled 'Khader Adnan, Bobby Sands'.

"Khader Adnan grew up in a war zone/But all the tanks and planes were only on one side/It was a type of war that they call occupation/ Settlement, removal, fratricide," Rovics sings in the Youtube video.

The songwriter has released over a dozen albums and regularly tours, both in the United States and internationally. He was a fervent critic of former US president George W. Bush.

Khader Adnan has refused food since his Dec. 17 detention in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. It is the longest hunger strike any Palestinian prisoner has undertaken.

He has not been charged with any crime.

"They say Khader Adnan is a terrorist/Just like they said of Bobby Sands/Because he dares speak out against injustice/Because he dares to make a stand."

Bobby Sands died in 1981 after 66 days on hunger strike. Sands, a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army, was protesting for prisoner rights, including the right of Irish republican detainees to be recognized as 'political' not 'criminal' prisoners.
