Israeli mayor 'plans new East Jerusalem settlement'

TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israel's Jerusalem Mayor plans to establish a new Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem, according to news reports Tuesday.

Around 200 new homes are planned for the area, which lies between Abu Dis and Jabal al-Mukkabir, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported.

The settlement, referred to as Kidmat Zion, will be built on land purchased by Irving Moskowitz, a Florida businessman and patron of Jewish settlers.

Moskowitz also bought the landmark Shepherd Hotel in Sheik Jarrah, whose historic Palestinian owners -- the Husseini family -- lost a legal case to recognize their title to the property on Monday.

According to Haaretz, Mayor Nir Barakat took the settlement plans to three council members of the leftist Meretz party, and they threatened to withdraw from the coalition if he implements the plan.

The settlement "will split East Jerusalem in two and destroy any chance of dividing the city and of reaching a peace agreement," Council member Meir Margalit said, according to the report.

this area of "armon ha'natsiv"(between abu-dis and mukabir) was under UN control after 48, so this is not really a "settlement" since its not really in what was the jordanian side of the green line! it may not be on the jewish side ether, but if any is to complain their "land is being taken over" it can only be the UN! not the palestinians land in any way in this case (even if you accept palestinian claim for east Jerusalem

AT least be try fair, since this trial was
NOT between Israel and either Jordan or the United Nations,
BUT between Israel and One Very Prominent Husseini Family,
AND regardless of whether the Land/Hotel is in Israel, Jordan,
OR a potential/future Palestine, the family should still own it,
UNLESS it was purchased legally by Irving Moskowitz !!!

This good news will add another complains to the letter, which Abbas is writing to Israel. I heard that the letter is still being written. PA has problem with sending that letter to Israel - they do not have enough money for the mail stamp.
