Published Wednesday 11/04/2012 (updated) 24/04/2012 11:00
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Irish rock star Bono paid a surprise visit to the West Bank on Tuesday, onlookers said.

In Bethlehem, the U2 frontman was seen visiting the Nativity Church , a center in Aida refugee camp and touring Israel's separation wall which surrounds the city.

He later visited Wadi al-Qyilt, a valley near Jericho, onlookers said.

The renowned singer and charity campaigner was accompanied by his family and a bodyguard. Palestinian tour guide Wisam Salsa was seen with the group.

On Monday, the singer was spotted in a restaurant in Jaffa, near Tel Aviv, the Israeli press reported.

Bono? If you want to visit the Holy Land at Easter? Don't just go to West Bank? That's a showpiece of the 'occupation'(look what a "nice" bantustan the native Arabs can grovel in, if they subjugate to Zionist colonial eternal OCCUPATION! Go to GAZA,thru' Rafah,&see real collective punishment.
It'll remind you of IRELAND,during British colonial rule! Go talk to PLO/Hamas(the Palestinian IRA)& Gazan's who remain envclaved by Israeli Zionism.Go see Israels Maze prisons, full of freedomists!Go Bono!

Bono visits West Bank while Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is a guest of Zionist elites, who paid for his trip to Israel. I expect Daniels to return to Indiana spewing Zionist talking points while ignoring the plight of Palestinians.

it took him a loooong time until he finally took this step. i still cannot trust his intention. i suppose it is rather purely his religious concern than political. according to the haaretz article on his spotted visit to jaffa, he performed in israel in as recent as 2007 and invested in an israeli company. considering his looooooong silence on justice for palestine and suffering of its people and land, i cannot trust him. but i do sincerely hope that i am mistaken.

I love comments 2 through 6 and 8. Well said, my commarades. Bono has been too willing to go along with American politicians businessmen that support the occupation in return for aid to Africa. He even celebrated the ceasefire during the massacre on Gaza in late 2008/early 2009, while failing to mention that Israeli war crimes don't require open fire and Palestinians only continued to suffer in silence. Bono rightly opposed South Africa's apartheid system, but won't that of Israel.

Since Wisam was Bono's guide, Bono will have gotten the Palestinian version of the occupation. Wisam Salsa is a Palestinian-Arab-Christian and he lives in the West Bank and knows first hand what it is like to live in that situation. Bono's trip there probably was a christian pilgrimage, but Wisam (the absolute best guide for the Holy Lands) is a great ambassador for the people of Palestine

Sorry to disappoint you but he invested in Israel - not in "palestine" and not in the arab world. And that says it all. Who cares about his or anyone else's vacation. But investment into Israel just keeps increasing - and this man is one small part of that. Even a left wing rock star invests here. Looks like BDS is not doing too well.

14) Nazi Germany looked like it was doing pretty well too at its height. So too apartheid South Africa. But in the end they fell and their criminal supporters such as yourself went with them.

Keep dreaming your hateful thoughts, keep dreaming your dreams of genocide against us. It is because of people like you we are always on our guard, always aware. We have beaten you for 100 generations and we shall go on beating you. But go ahead and dream. We are doers.

Hope Bono will use his voice and celebrity to draw attention to the crimes Israel is perpetrating against the Palestinian nation and the freedom of the Palestinian people, all with the hefty support of US taxpayer money.

#14 Sure, your economic indicators are great. You stole the land (at the expense of 700 Arab villages and towns), stole the water (from the West Bank), and live on US welfare and hand-outs. You have never had it so well right? Read #15, Nazi Germany and apartheid RSA were doing fantastic before they collapsed and crumbled under the weight of international justice and legitimacy. Your colonial experiment WILL expire, and very soon.

@19: if that makes you feel better, go ahead and think it. Meantime, the neighbors are expiring quite nicely. Libya is no longer a functioning state, I believe they called for our demise. Syria is no longer a functioning state, certainly not unified, I believe they called us artificial. Iraq is not really a state any longer but they said we would not last. Lebanon perhaps? Hardly a state, certainly not a nation. Egypt, we are waiting for civil war and probable starvation. It is a matter of time.

I bet my botttom as a Westerner who lives alongside many satisfied, well nurtured, fed, educated Arabs(like my Dr), that Bono saw NO atrocities, committed by Israelis. He most likely saw lots of traffic inconviences as a result of freedom fighters blowing up our civilians on buses for many years, some fortress like overdone security to which every one ends up in their home safely. Anyway it's his right as a Chritian to holiday and see Holy places. Peace. From Jerusalem

Israel is a project of continuous warcrimes and human rights violations. I don't believe Israeli business is doing well. It really needs the US money. BDS is working, otherwise southparkbear and his friends would not be here but in their garden. No future for Israel. It is a sign that even Bono showed up. In the end things will accelerate.
