HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Settlers destroyed dozens of olive trees belonging to Hebron villagers on Friday, a local committee said.

Settlers from Maon settlement southeast of Hebron chopped down dozens of trees belonging to Jebril Mousa Khalil, a spokesman for the popular committee against the wall and settlements said.

The settlers also chased shepherds and international activists who were present at the time, following the group to nearby Tuwani village where they then began throwing stones at Palestinian homes.

Israeli forces arrived in the area to protect the settlers, the popular committee said.

Kharoubeh village is located directly opposite the illegal settlement of Maon.

Settlers in the West Bank routinely attack local Palestinians, destroying their property and agricultural land.

Over 90 percent of villages attacked by settlers are under Israeli security control, The Palestine Center says.

In 2011, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that settler attacks had increased by 50 percent on the previous year.

The usual bleakly comic punchline. 'Israeli forces arrived in the area to protect the settlers.' Israel must be one of the few societies in the world that makes a point of protecting vandals and hoodlums. I suppose something similar may have happened in Nazi Germany.

How often do we read of the settlers destroying farmers' livelihoods, and that the IDF then protects the settlers. Under international law the IDF is required to protect the Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories. Yet they never come in to protect the Palestinians who are being attacked. What right have the settlers to attack the farmers and their farms? None. But Israel allows this to continue, and is thumbing its nose at International Law. And the West looks on, and does nothing.

Seeing the savagery of these E.European,ex-Soviet,S/African,US Zionist-thugs,& comparing their supremacist, racist, mindsets & nationalist/religious zealotry/ideology,reminds me of the Nazi Brown Shirts/Hitler Youth, burning, looting, raiding, destroying JEWISH neighborhoods, businesses, synagogues,in the late 1930's onward across Europe! A "Lebensraum" of 'uber alles' Nazism,& post 1935,we've had the Jewish-Zionist "lebensraum",in Arab Palestine. A mirror image! No wonder the world HATES NAZI Israel!

The eternal battle between settlers and olive trees. It's a matter of conflicting interests.

International Law applies only "state-to-state" citizens. It does not apply to "nonstate noncitizens" (such as the egyptian & saudi tribal clans claiming squatter's rights in judea, samaria & gaza). The jewish people living in judea & samaria are full-fledged israeli citizens. Thus, they command the right of protection. That these citizens of Israel are destroying arab olive trees is an arab myth perpetrated by these nonstate tribal arabs claiming squatters rights.

#9, what a filthy comment from a descendant of illegal polish immigrants to Palestine. The citizens of New Warsaw are now claiming to be native middle easterners. wow.

# 7 - yes, yes, of course, an innocent mistake - made too often. # 8 - not reported in Israeli media - well, what a surprise!!! And this is the "only true democracy in the Middle East." I suppose a democracy can decide what to report in their media, but democracy goes out the window when they only report what they want their public to know. # 9 - protection from what? Palestinians angry at destroyed trees? No wait, the destruction of trees is an Arab myth. See the photos? Clearly mythical.

Re #9 EM. It's revealing what a stew of lies EM has to assemble to justify this nonsense. The Palestinians don't exist, only Jews have rights, and the trees aren't being destroyed. That's the gist of his post. It makes the ravings of Holocaust Deniers seem reasoned and cogent.
