AMMAN (Ma'an) -- Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Zahhar said Tuesday that the movement does not pin much hope on contacts with Western countries, Jordanian media reported.

Zahhar told Jordanian newspaper al-Dustour: "We don't count on ongoing contacts, we just talk to who wants to listen."

Party officials told The Associated Press last week that Hamas recently held secret talks with five European Union member states. Zahhar played down the significance of the meetings to al-Dustour, saying "we don't pin serious hopes on western countries."

He hit back at reports Hamas will stop military resistance activities. Groups making such allegations "must read recent Palestinian history, especially 2006 and 2008 when there were wars on Hamas," he told the newspaper.

West is not counting on Hamas also.

Were it not for US and Israeli deceptions in attempting to create an entity with which to conduct sham negotiations regarding the intended take over of Palestine, Hamas never would have existed. This is historical fact..not fiction.

Zahhar is right. Don't count on the West. They're bought and paid [the governments and the media, that is] by the Lobby, and their only purpose is to sing lullabies to make the Palestinians fall asleep all while the Israelis continue their landgrabbing. It's been going on for 64 years now.

It is also fact that Hamas is part of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is present in all Arab countries. Thus it is fiction to think that without Israel Hamas would not exist. The Muslim Brotherhood exists in a large part as a counter to whoever is the dictator. And as an alleged phd, you should stop pushing false propaganda like "intended take over of Palesine", since the facts prove you wrong. Unless, of course, you can prove how Israel will take over Ramalla and Jenin, et al.

And, of course, it is clear that the West has no shared values with Hamas, which is the chief reason there is no 'serious hope.' Unlike Dr. Paul's America, Hamas does not support freedom of speech, freedom of religion or freedom of the press. And Hamas totally rejects democracy, except for the ability to get itself elected once. Which is why Hamas actively blocks the CEC's work in Gaza and will not hold elections. Western countries do not like Hamas with its thousands of political prisoners.

Why would Hamas count on western countries - the west has never acted in good faith in the past so why would it change now? Even when Hamas agreed to 1967 borders - a major concession - the west did not move. When will the west realise that it is not just Hamas, but all of Palestine that is in resistance (except for a few bought-off sycophants)? La lucha sigue...
