NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israel's high court is holding a session to consider a discharge request by Palestinian Legislative Council member Hussam Khader, who has been in detention for a year, a lawyer said Wednesday.
Jawad Boulos of the Palestinian prisoners society told Ma'an that the society asked the court to accept its petition considering a year has passed in which Khader has not been charged with a crime.
Khader has been arrested repeatedly by Israel, Boulos said. He has been detained by Israeli forces on 26 occasions and spent nine years in Israeli prisons, the lawyer said.
In February, an Israeli military court at Ofer detention center near Ramallah delayed delivering a judgment on an appeal by the jailed Fatah lawmaker, Boulos said at the time.
Khader, chairman of the parliamentary committee for the defense of refugees, is a known champion of reconciliation with Hamas. He was detained by Israeli forces on June 2.
