BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Fatah officials said on Saturday that they will postpone scheduled amendments to the party leadership in the Gaza Strip after officials tried to resign in protest.
Fatah's Revolutionary Council is meeting on Saturday and Sunday in Ramallah, and will address the issue of replacing officials, party recruitment commissioner Nabil Shaath said.
Postponing the reshuffle will give "breathing space," and allow Fatah officials from Gaza to express their concerns at the meeting, he said.
Shaath denied that the leadership changes had been rushed through, saying "everybody worked with team spirit, and I cannot make any negative comments," about the committees' performance.
The recently appointed secretary-general of Fatah in the Gaza Strip Yazid al-Huweihi and several other Gaza officials submitted their resignations on Friday to protest the appointment of new officials within the party.
Shaath said he did not accept the resignation and al-Huweihi should not talk about internal Fatah issues to the media.
