JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas met on Friday with King Abdullah in Saudi Arabia to discuss the Palestinian Authority's financial crisis.
The PA has been unable to pay government salaries for the last month, citing large debts and the failure of donors to deliver aid.
Abbas headed to Saudi Arabia because "it has always been supportive to the PA at all levels," PLO Secretary-General Yasser Abed Rabbo said on Wednesday, adding that the PA was planning delegations to other Arab countries to seek a way out of their financial crisis.
After meeting with the king in Jeddah, Abbas also met former Lebanese prime minister Saad al-Hariri to discuss efforts towards peace between regional countries and Israel.
