PA: Israeli forces remove 12-year-old Jericho roadblock
Published Saturday 21/07/2012 (updated) 22/07/2012 16:09
NABLUS (Ma’an) – Israeli forces have removed a roadblock which they erected at the northern entrance to Jericho 12 years ago, the governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley Majid al-Fityani told Ma’an on Saturday.

Al-Fityani confirmed that on Saturday morning Israeli bulldozers removed the cement and dirt barricades near an-Nuweima village, allowing Palestinian vehicles to use the road. However, he highlighted that the Palestinian Authority demanded that Israeli forces remove al-Hamra and other checkpoints in the Jordan Valley.

The governor said that the removal of Nuweima roadblock would help farmers in the Jordan Valley. The move will also be helpful to Palestinian citizens traveling from the northern West Bank to Jericho, he added.

Israeli forces had shut down the northern entrance near Nuweima in 2000 after the second Intifada erupted.

It is uplifting and encouraging to see that there are attempts to ease mobility in the West Bank. InshAllah all of the Check points will be removed :)
