Factions dispute move for PLO joint electoral list in Nablus

NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Party members of the Palestinian Liberation Organization will run on a joint list in Nablus in upcoming municipal elections, a Fatah leader said Thursday.

But two PLO factions -- the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Popular Struggle Front -- disputed that a joint list had been agreed.

PFLP said it was working to form its own list of democratic factions to contest the elections.

Secretary General of Fatah in Nablus, Mahmoud Ishtaya, said earlier that PLO factions had agreed to form a united list on the recommendation of President and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas.

The Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority announced on July 10 that it would hold local elections on Oct. 20, a decision denounced by Hamas as a "unilateral step" that undermined reconciliation.
