BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Hamas spokesman on Tuesday denied reports that a rocket fired at southern Israel was launched from the Gaza Strip.

"This is only a lie. None of the Gaza Strip factions claimed responsibility for firing that missile, and the government is checking all the details," Ehab al-Ghussein said in a statement.

Israel is attempting to divert attention from its crimes against the Palestinian people, most recently, the death of Arafat Jadarat after being allegedly tortured in an Israeli jail, the statement added.

Earlier Monday, a rocket hit a road near the southern city of Ashkelon, Israeli police said.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, affiliated with Fatah, claimed responsibility for firing the rocket, a statement from the group said.

"We must resist our enemy by all available means," the group said in a statement emailed to reporters. "We stress our commitment to armed struggle against the Zionist enemy."

Every one rocket launched from Gaza should be followed by one day of complete closure of all crossings between Israel and Gaza. One rocket – one day, two rockets – two days, ten rockets – ten days and so on. This way palestinians will learn very quickly how beneficiary launching the rockets for them.

Not credible. Just because no one is claiming responsibility doesn't mean it didn't happen.

This is the first time Israel can claim that Gaza has breached the so-called truce, after almost daily breaches by the IDF. So I guess the next move is Israel telling us that "Hamas has sent thousands of rockets over the border, targetting our women and children and babies . . .we are entitled to defend ourselves." And by now no-one believes them. So what would the US or Australia do in that situation? Agree with Israel, of course.

10 gabi/australia has the perspective. In the first weeks of January this year israel arbritrarily murdered a child a day from Gaza. However israel has the stupidity, arrogance and hubris to complain about a rocket which hurt no one.

@Carlos; If you play with statistics, double the amount. Make it, "2 children a day arbitrarily murdered by Israel", oh heck...make it 3 children! There are Palestinian ex-pats in canada and Eurotrash lefties in England who would spin your statistics as a valid argument. LOL!
